joseph g. kalmer

Joseph G. Kalmer was born and raised in Clinton County, IL, a rural area about 45 miles east of St. Louis, MO. At a young age he had a tremendous interest in the funeral profession. He enjoyed the television show “Quincy” in which Jack Klugman portrayed the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. He furthered his interest by acquiring a summer job at the local funeral home. This experience assured him of his desire to enter the profession. After attaining his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL he attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, graduating in the Spring of 1988.

Joe’s experience in the business includes purchasing and operating a “traditional” funeral home, merging with another funeral home, selling a funeral home, as well as starting and sustaining his current business as a “Professional Discount Provider” of funeral and cremation services. This unique blend of transitions fit his desire to grow within the industry. As the death care industry evolved into what it is today, Joe evolved as well.

Obviously the biggest change in the death care industry is the growth of cremation. Many funeral directors are reluctant to change. Never afraid of a new venture, Joe Kalmer has embraced cremation and created a business in which he can make a comfortable living by being the most affordable cremation provider in the market. As the author of “You Can Afford to Die; Sensible Advice from a Practical Funeral Director”, he literally wrote the book on dying affordably.

Joe resides in Edwardsville, IL with his wife, Cheryl. He has two daughters, a son-in-law and one grandchild. He enjoys boating, golf and playing the drums.
